[August 25, 2008]  The following recalls were issued by various federal and state agencies during the week ending Aug. 23: 

CivicBATTERIES FOR RADIO-CONTROLLED HELICOPTERS 

Hobbico Inc. is recalling Batteries Used In Radio-Controlled Helicopter Kits sold nationwide from November 2007 to March 2008. The rechargeable battery can overheat and catch fire while charging, igniting nearby combustible materials. This poses a fire hazard. 

This recall involves the Electrifly lithium-polymer batteries (part #GPMP0401) sold individually or with the Heli-Max Axe CP-L radio-controlled helicopter kits. The kit includes a 23-inch long plastic helicopter, a battery, a radio transmitter, a balance charger, a car adapter, an AC wall adapter, decals that read "HMX", "AXE" and "Heli-Max" and training gear. "Electrifly" and "GPMP0401" are printed on the battery. 

Consumers should contact Hobbico at (866) 462-2426 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. CT Monday through Friday for instructions on returning their battery for a free replacement battery or visit

FLAME WEEDERS 

Gardener's Supply Co. is recalling Flame Weeders sold in Burlington and Williston Vt. From March 2008 to July 2008. The two-piece brass control valve can separate between the flame weeder and the propane tank and allow propane to leak from the tank. This poses fire and burn hazards. 

The recalled flame weeders are used to burn weeds. The weeders have a long silver colored metal tube with a blue plastic handle which is attached by a two-piece brass valve to a 1 lb. propane tank.

AMSTERDAM BICYCLES 

Electra Bicycle Company is recalling Amsterdam Bicycles sold nationwide from January 2007 to June 2008. The interior alignment tabs of the bicycle's chainguard can be pushed against the chain causing it to derail, which poses a risk of injury to riders. 

This recall involves some Amsterdam model bicycles in the Classic 3, Original 3, Royal 8, and Sport 3 styles. The bicycles have an enclosed chainguard. "Electra" and "Amsterdam" are printed on the bicycle's frame and/or chainguard.

HEAT RECOVERY VENTILATORS 

Venmar CES Inc. is recalling Light Commercial Heat Recovery Ventilators sold nationwide from January 1991 to July 2007. The motors in these units can overheat, posing a fire hazard.

ELECTRICAL WIRE SPLICES 

Gardner Bender is recalling Electrical Wire Splices (also known as Butt Splice Connectors) sold nationwide from June 2005 to April 2008. The splice can fail to hold the wires adequately together, posing a shock and fire hazard. 

The recalled butt splices are used to connect electrical wires to one another. The splices are yellow insulated vinyl and measure about one inch long and ¼ inch wide. They were intended for use with 12-10 AWG wire. 12-10 is stamped on the side of the splices. Model numbers 10-126, or 21-126, and Gardner Bender are printed on the product's packaging. They were sold in packages of 8 or 50.

STEAM CLEANERS 

Thane International Inc. is recalling H20 Portable Hand Held Steam Cleaners sold nationwide from December 2007 to May 2008. Steam can escape from the handle and trigger of the steam cleaner, posing a burn hazard. 

The recalled portable hand held steam cleaners are white and dark gray. "H20" and "M" are printed on the steam cleaners. Model number YQ3888 and the "produce code" are printed on a label on the underside of the units. This recall only includes steam cleaners with "produce codes" from 071025 through 080324.

BICYCLE FORKS 

Cervélo SA is recalling Wolf SL Carbon Fiber Bicycle Forks sold nationwide from November 2005 to July 2007. The forks steerer can break during normal use, causing the rider to lose control, fall and suffer serious injuries. 

Medical

The recalled forks have a clear coating over black painted carbon fiber, with the words "Wolf Superlite" and related logo just below the crown on each fork leg, and the letters "SL" on each leg above the fork blade dropouts. There is a True Temper CRT™ logo on the inside of both fork legs. The recalled forks could have been included on the following bicycle models: R3, R3 SL, Soloist Carbon, Soloist Carbon SL, and certain P3 Carbon framesets and complete bicycles. 

Consumers should contact their authorized Cervélo dealer to have a free replacement fork installed.
