[December 05, 2008]  (AP)  Lake-effect snow was expected in Michigan, Ohio and upstate New York on Friday. Some areas of Upper Michigan and New York's Syracuse area were to receive up to a foot of snow. Scattered flurries and snow showers were forecast for the northern Ohio Valley, parts of Pennsylvania and New York.

HardwareThe rest of the Northeast was predicted to see partly to mostly cloudy skies, although the clouds were to begin clearing out toward the end of the day.

Clear skies were forecast for most of the Southeast, although a few showers were likely in parts of Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas.

Clouds, gusty winds and snow were expected in the northern and central Plains. The snowfall was to be fairly light, and no significant accumulation was expected. The southern Plains were to be clear.

Most of the West was predicted to be free of clouds, but fog and low clouds were expected in California's Central Valley.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Thursday ranged from minus 7 degrees at Sparta, Wis., to 80 degrees at Ormond Beach, Fla.
