Melanie Riggs, city clerk, has announced that petitions to be on the
Ward 3 ballot for alderman were filed by political newcomer Ken
Allen of 607 S. McLean St. Allen became the third Ward 3 Republican
candidate to file petitions to get his name on the ballot for the
February 2009 citywide primary. Already placing candidacy petitions
on file were incumbent Alderman David Armburst and William Haak.
On the last day to file, incumbent Alderman Verl Prather turned in
his petitions to run again in Ward 2. He will be challenged by David
Wilmert.
Incumbent Wanda Lee Rohlfs will have her seat contested in Ward 4
by Nathan Turner.
There also will be a three-way race for mayor of Lincoln, with
Republicans Keith Snyder, Mike Thornton and Pat O'Neill having filed
for the position.
Since all three mayoral candidates were on hand when the filing
period opened, they will participate in a lottery in Riggs' office
at 10:30 a.m. Thursday.
Also participating in drawings Thursday to determine ballot spots
will be GOP aldermanic candidates from Wards 3 and 4. Armbrust and
Haak, who both filed at 9 a.m. Monday, will be involved in one
drawing, and incumbent Ward 4 Alderman Rohlfs and challenger Nathan
Turner will participate in another drawing.
Allen, because he filed later than the other two Ward 3
candidates, will be No. 3 on the ballot.
Prather, filing after Wilmert, will be listed second on the Ward
2 ballot.
