Winter Storm Still Affecting Central Illinois

[February 01, 2008]  The snow will continue to taper off from west to east across central and southeast Illinois for the remainder of the morning. However, travel will remain hazardous until the roads can be cleared of the snow.

A winter storm warning remains in effect until noon Friday for the counties of Peoria, Marshall, Woodford, Tazewell, McLean, Mason, Logan, DeWitt, Piatt, Champaign, Vermilion, Cass, Menard, Scott, Morgan, Sangamon, Christian, Macon, Moultrie, Douglas, Coles, Edgar, Shelby, Cumberland, Clark, Effingham, Jasper, Crawford, Clay, Richland and Lawrence, including the cities of Peoria, Bloomington, Normal, Havana, Lincoln, Champaign, Urbana, Danville, Jacksonville, Springfield, Taylorville, Decatur, Charleston, Mattoon, Shelbyville, Effingham, Flora and Lawrenceville.

Snow is gradually tapering off from west to east. Snowfall rates up to 1 inch per hour are possible with the heavier snow bands until the snow tapers off. Total snow accumulations of 6 to 8 inches, with locally higher amounts, are expected by the time the snow ends.

Travel will remain hazardous until the roads can be cleared of the snow.

The National Weather Service in Lincoln has canceled the winter weather advisory for the counties of Knox, Stark, Fulton and Schuyler, including the city of Galesburg.
