New Era Canning Co. of New Era, Mich., is
expanding their recall to include all cans of vegetable products in
No. 10 cans (large cans containing between 6 and 7 pounds). The
recall has been expanded to include 43 products produced at New Era
Canning Co. in New Era, Mich. The recalled products may have been
processed under conditions that could have led to contamination by
Clostridium botulinum bacterium spores, which can cause
life-threatening illness or death. As a result, the U.S. Food and
Drug Administration is warning consumers not to open or eat canned
products identified as part of the recall. The product should be
returned to the distributor or discarded without opening the
container.

Recalled products include green asparagus, green beans, red kidney
beans, red beans, wax beans, black beans, black-eyed peas, northern
beans, Mexican-style chili beans, pinto beans and lima beans, among
other vegetables in 6- to 7-pound cans. Several brand names are also
