[February 11, 2008]  New Era Canning Co. of New Era, Mich., is expanding their recall to include all cans of vegetable products in No. 10 cans (large cans containing between 6 and 7 pounds). The recall has been expanded to include 43 products produced at New Era Canning Co. in New Era, Mich. The recalled products may have been processed under conditions that could have led to contamination by Clostridium botulinum bacterium spores, which can cause life-threatening illness or death. As a result, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration is warning consumers not to open or eat canned products identified as part of the recall. The product should be returned to the distributor or discarded without opening the container.

Recalled products include green asparagus, green beans, red kidney beans, red beans, wax beans, black beans, black-eyed peas, northern beans, Mexican-style chili beans, pinto beans and lima beans, among other vegetables in 6- to 7-pound cans. Several brand names are also affected by the recall.
