[February 12, 2008]  CHICAGO -- The following statement from Gov. Rod R. Blagojevich was released Monday on the passing of former Illinois state Sen. Adeline Geo-Karis:

"Adeline Geo-Karis was born in Greece and came to America in 1922. She was a strong woman. She was a pioneer who made her way in the military and in elected office during an era that was considered by many to be a man's world. She represented a blue-collar, working-class constituency for three decades. She didn't forget the life experiences that shaped her and never lost the common touch. My wife, Patti, and I extend our deepest condolences to Adeline's family. Our thoughts and prayers are with them."
