[February 15, 2008]  The National Weather Service in Lincoln has issued a flash flood watch for Logan County for Saturday evening through Sunday morning.

One to 2 inches of rain will be possible through noon Sunday.

A flood watch means there's a potential for flooding based on current forecasts. You should monitor for later forecasts and be alert for possible flood warnings.

Saturday through Thursday

A major winter weather system will move northeast from the desert Southwest into northern Illinois this weekend. Rain will spread northeast across central Illinois toward Interstate 74 Saturday evening, with freezing rain northwest of the Illinois River. Rain will mix with and change to snow Sunday afternoon and continue Sunday night. There is a potential of up to 1 inch of snow southeast of the Illinois River. A couple of inches of snow and around a quarter-inch of ice could accumulate northwest of the Illinois River Saturday night and Sunday.

Heavy rains of 1 to 2 inches may accompany the system, and flooding may become more widespread early next week due to runoff from this storm system.

Flooding will persist along the Illinois River over the next several days.

Logan County Could See More Ice and Snow This Weekend

[February 15, 2008]  The National Weather Service in Lincoln issued a hazardous weather outlook for portions of central and east-central Illinois, including the counties of Cass, Champaign, Christian, Coles, DeWitt, Douglas, Edgar, Fulton, Knox, Logan, Macon, Marshall, Mason, McLean, Menard, Morgan, Moultrie, Peoria, Piatt, Sangamon, Schuyler, Scott, Shelby, Stark, Tazewell, Vermilion and Woodford.

Friday and Friday night

The Illinois River will remain in flood through Friday night downstream of Henry. Monitor river warnings and statements for the latest information.

Saturday through Thursday

A major winter weather system will move across Illinois later this weekend. This will likely develop freezing rain across central Illinois Saturday night, especially north of Interstate 74. The freezing rain will spread northeast across central Illinois toward I-74 Saturday evening. There is a potential for light ice accumulations north of I-74 Saturday night and Sunday morning. Mixed precipitation Sunday morning will change to all snow Sunday afternoon and continue Sunday night. With the snow Sunday afternoon and Sunday night, the heaviest snow totals are expected northwest of the Illinois River, where more than 4 inches are possible. A couple of inches of snow may accumulate as far southeast as Champaign and Decatur.
