Oasis Update

[February 20, 2008]  The Oasis, Logan County's senior citizen center, 501 Pulaski St. in Lincoln, is open weekdays, except holidays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The center also is open on Friday and Sunday nights for table games. Dominic Dalpoas is the executive director. Activities are open to all Logan County senior citizens, regardless of membership. Friends of The Oasis members receive a bimonthly newsletter by mail and reduced rates for classes and trips. For more information, call 732-6132 or 732-5844.

Extension sponsor bingo

The Logan County Extension Unit will sponsor bingo on Thursday, beginning at 1 p.m. Come win nutritional food items.

Alzheimer support group to meet

The Alzheimer support group will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday in the senior center's library. No reservation is necessary. The group provides support and information for caregivers and extended family and is facilitated by a coordinator from Maple Ridge Care Centre.

Oasis board meeting

The Oasis board will meet at 5 p.m. Thursday. The meeting is open to the public.

Free blood pressure checks

The Oasis offers free blood pressure checks every Friday from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Memories class

The monthly Memories class is scheduled for 3:45 p.m. Friday in the senior center's library. Participants are asked to bring their own pen and paper to learn skills needed to preserve memories for families and friends.

SHARE distribution

The Self Help and Resource Exchange program distribution will be from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Friday at the senior center. The SHARE program is an outreach sponsored by the Catholic Diocese of Peoria. For more details, call 732-6132.

New time for bunco

Bunco will begin at 10 a.m. Monday.

February birthdays

Birthday time! February birthdays will be celebrated Monday, beginning at 1:30 p.m., at the senior center. Come enjoy the entertainment, cake and ice cream.

Tuesday lunch

The menu for the 11:30 a.m. lunch Feb. 26 is mostaccioli, salad, bread and butter, and dessert. The suggested donation $3.75, or if you stay to play cards, the cost is $3.25. Reservation deadline is noon Monday.

Bingo at the Rec

For Tuesday night bingo at the Lincoln Rec Center, the computer special is "6 on 9 up." For $12, get one additional free; $16, get two additional free; and $20, three additional free. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Early bird is 6:50 p.m.
