[February 26, 2008]  A winter storm continues to affect central Illinois. Low pressure along the Kansas and Missouri border moved toward the southern tip of Illinois Monday night and is expected to deepen up the Ohio River on Tuesday, bringing the threat for significant snowfall to areas along and north of Interstate 74. In addition to the snow, strong winds will produce blowing and drifting snow.

A snow and blowing snow advisory is in effect until noon Tuesday for the counties of Fulton, Schuyler, Mason, Logan, Cass, Menard, Scott, Morgan, Sangamon, including the cities of Havana, Lincoln, Jacksonville and Springfield.

The snow is expected to diminish by noon Tuesday, with between 2 and 4 inches of accumulation. North to northwest wind gusts of 30 to 40 mph will cause blowing and drifting snow.

A snow and blowing snow advisory means that visibilities will be limited due to a combination of falling and blowing snow. Use caution when traveling, especially in open areas.
