Wildflower Walks on Elkhart Hill

Send a link to a friend

[February 27, 2008]  ELKHART -- Celebrate springtime with a walk on beautiful Elkhart Hill to enjoy the spectacular wildflowers on April 12 or 19. The Wildflower Walks were a big hit last year, and the Elkhart Historical Society has made even bigger plans for this year.

Why not make the walk a fun outing for the whole family? Every child on the walk will receive a wildflower bingo card to learn the names of flowers and to keep track of the beautiful wildflowers they see on Elkhart Hill. This is a wonderful opportunity for home-schooled children.

Before the walk, enjoy breakfast in downtown Elkhart at the Bluestem Bake Shop or Talk of the Town restaurant, or have the Wildflower Walk lunch special at the Wild Hare Café. Make sure you tell them you're with the walk group.

The groups will meet at the Bluestem Bake Shop for the morning walk and at the Wild Hare Café for the afternoon walk. The walks begin promptly at 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on both days. Each outing will last approximately an hour and a half, and each group is limited to 15 people. Children must be age 7 or older and must be accompanied by an adult. As most of the outing will be on foot, please dress for the weather and bring insect repellent.

Reservations are required for both walks, and the cost is $5 per person. Registration closes on April 10, so save your spot early. For more information or for a reservation form, please call 217-947-2046 or visit www.elkharthistoricalsociety.org.
