[February 28, 2008]  (AP) Snow was forecast across the northern Plains and upper Midwest on Thursday, while chilly temperatures were predicted as far south as the Gulf Coast and Florida. In fact, wind chills were expected to plunge as low as the lower 20s in Florida.

Farther to the north, widespread scattered snow showers were forecast from the Great Lakes through the Ohio Valley and into the Northeast.

A low pressure system scooting across Canada was expected to drop snow from Nebraska through Iowa and into the Great Lakes. Scattered snow showers were also anticipated in the Intermountain West and northern Rockies.

Temperatures in the Northeast were forecast to rise into the 10s, 20s and 30s, while the Southeast was to see temperatures in the 50s and 60s. The southern Plains were expected to rise into the 60s and 70s, while the Great Lakes were to see temperatures in the 20s and 30s. Temperatures in the Northwest were predicted to range from the 40s in higher elevations to the 60s in lower elevations.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Wednesday ranged from a low of minus 15 degrees at Grand Marais, Minn., to a high of 89 degrees at Yuma, Ariz.
