MP Zion Boys Finish 3rd in Tournament

[February 29, 2008]  SPRINGFIELD -- The boys from the Mount Pulaski Zion Lutheran varsity basketball team rallied late in the season to finish in third place in the Division II Greater Springfield Lutheran Athletic Association tournament over the weekend.

Saturday morning Zion was a 10-point winner over Springfield Trinity. Zion fell in the afternoon game against Jacksonville Salem Lutheran but bounced back Sunday in facing Godfrey Faith to win the game 37-34.

Ryan Amidon had a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds. Austin Mittelsteadt had nine points, with 3-of-4 free throws. Christopher Wernsing contributed six points and four steals. Steven Schahl added five points and Blake Collier had four. Garret Maxheimer had two rebounds and one steal.

Janson Cooper provided five points in Saturday's game, including a 3-pointer.
