The vehicle has all the newest technologies available to provide the
safest transport possible of individuals in wheelchairs. The vehicle
and its modifications would have cost the agency over $35,000 if it
weren't for IDOT's support of the program. Each year, the senior
transportation program at CIEDC provides approximately 15,000 rides
to seniors in central Illinois.
The program is funded with federal support and state general
revenue funds. CIEDC also receives partial funding from the Area
Agency on Aging for Lincolnland and receives local support from the
United Way of Logan County and Logan County Board senior tax
funding. However, each year Community Action must raise thousands of
dollars to maintain the level of services currently being provided
in Logan and Mason counties.

Seniors requiring rides to doctor visits and other necessary
trips can call CIEDC at 732-2159, ext. 240, to schedule a ride.
CIEDC accepts a suggested donation for the service but does not turn
away anyone for inability to donate.
"We're so appreciative to IDOT for providing us this vehicle so
we can continue our services," said Angie Jenkins, senior programs
director for Community Action. "Over 70 percent of all the rides we
provide are to important medical-related appointments like dialysis
treatments. By providing these services, seniors are able to stay
independent and in their own homes longer," Jenkins said.
CIEDC Community Action is a
private, nonprofit agency headquartered in Lincoln. The agency
provides services to low-income and elderly residents in Fulton,
Mason, Logan, Menard, DeWitt and Piatt counties.
