Oasis Update

[January 16, 2008]  The Oasis, Logan County's senior citizen center, 501 Pulaski St. in Lincoln, is open weekdays, except holidays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The center also is open on Friday and Sunday nights for table games. Dominic Dalpoas is the executive director. Activities are open to all Logan County senior citizens, regardless of membership. Friends of The Oasis members receive a bimonthly newsletter by mail and reduced rates for classes and trips. For more information, call 732-6132 or 732-5844.

Extension to sponsor bingo

The Logan County Extension Unit will sponsor Thursday bingo at the senior center. Games begin at 1 p.m. Come join the fun and win food items.

Alzheimer support group to meet

The Alzheimer support group will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday in the senior center's library. No reservation is necessary. The group provides support and information for caregivers and extended family and is facilitated by a coordinator from Maple Ridge Care Centre.

Oasis annual board meeting

The Oasis will have its annual board meeting, open to the public, on Thursday. The meeting of the corporation in conjunction with the regular meeting will begin at 5 p.m. The purpose of the report is to inform the members and the public on the accomplishments of 2007 and the goals for 2008. A nominating committee will submit names of candidates to serve terms available on the board of directors. The evening will begin with the business meeting, followed by entertainment and a light meal.

Memories class

The monthly Memories class is scheduled for 3:45 p.m. Friday in the library at the senior center. No reservations necessary. Participants are asked to bring their own pen and paper to learn skills needed to preserve memories for families and friends.

SHARE food distribution

The Self Help and Resource Exchange program distribution will be from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Friday at the senior center. The SHARE program is an outreach sponsored by the Catholic Diocese of Peoria. For more details, you may contact 732-6132.

Tuesday lunch

The 11:30 a.m. lunch for Jan. 22 will feature sloppy joes, tater tots, green beans and dessert for $3.75, or if you stay to play cards, the cost is $3.25. The deadline for reservations is 4 p.m. Friday.

Oasis closed for holiday

The Oasis will be closed Monday in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Activities will resume Tuesday. The Oasis has regular hours from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Bingo at the Rec

The Tuesday night bingo special at the Lincoln Rec Center is "Two for One." Buy one $20 computer and get the second one free. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Early bird is 6:50 p.m.

Card winners announced

Winner for weekday pinochle was Henry Warnisher. Weekend pinochle winners were Wilbur Wilmert and Bernie DePuy. The rummy winner was Betty Burger. Congratulations.
