[January 16, 2008]  (AP) A strong cold front was expected to push through the Central U.S. on Wednesday, dumping snow from the Rockies to the Plains and Upper Midwest. Snowfall was expected to range from 3 to 8 inches.

Forecasters predicted the wind chill factor in the region would drop temperatures to 20 below zero degrees in the mountains and around zero on the Plains.

Widespread showers and numerous thunderstorms were expected across the Deep South and Southeast, with some coastal floods likely.

Clear skies were anticipated for much of the East Coast and West Coast.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Tuesday ranged from a low of minus 27 degrees at Gunnison, Colo., to a high of 75 degrees at Miami, Fla. national weather
