[January 18, 2008]  ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Library is kicking off its 100th anniversary celebration with an award-winning Illinois author, Susan Kirby, who will be at the library Saturday afternoon to offer a glimpse of her life as a writer.

A native of Funks Grove, she grew up on the farm, helping make maple syrup along Route 66. Her rural experience was a springboard into publishing, with "The Maple Princess." Twenty-six years and 38 books later, her country roots continue to serve her well.

She lives in McLean with her husband, Ron. They have two sons and four grandchildren.

A selection of her books will be available for signing following her presentation at 2 p.m.

The public is cordially invited.

This event is the first in a series of events leading up to the grand finale during the annual Memorial Day celebration on the lawn of the library. Other events will be a Children's Day on Feb. 16, the Tea Ladies on March 30 and a memorial book recognition on April 19.
