Seasonal Weight Limits on Logan County Highways Begin

Send a link to a friend

[January 21, 2008]  Roadway soils undergo freezing and thawing conditions this time of year. Heavy loads during these freeze-thaw cycles can cause the roadways to rapidly deteriorate. The public’s cooperation with seasonal weight limits will help to keep our roads in good condition and will reduce the need for expensive repairs.

Beginning this week the seasonal weight limits are in effect on all Logan County highways. These roads are marked with five-sided blue signs and have the weight limit signs posted. Any vehicles in excess of the weight limits need to have a permit issued by the Logan County Highway Department.

These permits are available by visiting www.co.logan.il.us/highwaydept/, by calling the highway department office at 217-732-3059 or by visiting the office, 529 S. McLean St., Lincoln, IL 62656. There is no charge for the permits. Permits will only be valid on certain days and will need to be verified by the Logan County Highway Department.

The seasonal weight limits will be in effect until April 18.

Hauling on township roads in Logan County during this time period will need to be coordinated with the respective township road commissioner.
