[January 28, 2008]  Lincoln College is expressing thanks for a recent gift by the Burwell Family. The gift was a property on Keokuk Street, formerly the Pizza Hut building, which was formerly owned by the Burwell Family of Lincoln.

Lincoln College President John Hutchinson said he was elated about the donation. "The institution is deeply grateful for the generosity of the Burwell Family. Lincoln College continues to grow and offer additional educational programs, and along with those opportunities the need of extra space increases. We are extremely grateful to the entire Burwell family for their donation," said Hutchinson.

Plans for the building are unclear at this time; however, according to Hutchinson, the unrestricted gift could be used for a new medical program if enrollment numbers are reached.

Gene Burwell and his family, who owned the building, said they are happy to support the college. "We felt it was something we could do to contribute to the new medical program being offered by Lincoln College. It has potential, and we all thought it was the right thing to do," said Burwell.

Lincoln College had used the building in the past as a student activities area called SubZero. The venue was a place where students gathered for dancing in a nonalcohol environment.
