Low pressure will deepen as it tracks eastward across the northern
Plains today. This will cause strong southerly winds to develop
across central Illinois. Sustained winds of around 30 mph are
expected at times, along with wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph. Wind
speeds will diminish some by late evening but still remain gusty
throughout the night.
A wind advisory means that sustained winds of 30 mph are
expected, with gusts to 45 mph. Winds this strong can make driving
difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles and on roadways
oriented from east to west.
