To the editor:
I just finished reading the Lincoln Courier today (Jan. 26 issue)
and could not help but notice that Mr. McIntosh has accepted a
campaign contribution from Carlo Jiannoni, a former state police
employee involved in the investigation of the death of a child in
Logan County.
If everyone remembers, Jiannoni and his girlfriend almost
derailed the case against the individual responsible for the death
of the child. But for Mr. Huyett, with the assistance of Sheriff
Nichols and his staff, the individual responsible may have never
been held responsible, because the actions of Jiannoni and his
girlfriend caused the perpetrator's confession to be found
inadmissible in court. In short, they weren't truthful. At the very
best their actions were inept and at worst they bordered on
criminal. Both were later disciplined for their behavior.
I find it interesting that Mr. McIntosh took Jiannoni's campaign
contribution and when questioned about it, failed to condemn his
behavior. (He would have been better served not to say anything at
all when he was questioned, because the explanation he gave was
sad.) At the very least he should return the donation, but he should
have condemned Jiannoni's behavior when he had the opportunity. Mr.
McIntosh needs to be able to think on his feet a little quicker.
