To the editor:
My heart goes out to the Bobbs or to any parent who has had to
experience the loss of a child, particularly a loss to a violent
crime. As a parent myself, I cannot think of anything more
horrifying. Were that ever to happen, I have to think that somewhere
in the midst of all the grief and pain there would be a burning
desire to make sure the person(s) responsible paid for what they had
done.
In the Bobb case, the person responsible for this horrible act
was prosecuted by Mr. Huyett, found guilty and is in prison, where
he ought to be for a long time.
I can't imagine what it would be like never to know the
circumstances behind what happened to my child or to never know who
was responsible. That is the assistance I would first expect from
the prosecutor and the police -- find out who did it and hold them
accountable.

For that task I want someone on my side who is both very skilled
and unrelenting in their efforts to get to the truth. I wouldn't
care if he/she ever gets picked for Citizen of the Year, but I would
care that he/she knows how to do their job and gets results. Please
excuse the animal kingdom analogy, but for this task I want the
sometimes ill-tempered badger on my side, not the friendly little
bunny. I wouldn't care that he/she sometimes has to make decisions
based on the law even though they may make people unhappy -- I'd
want to see results! When it comes to the law, we should all EXPECT
our elected officials to have the courage to make difficult
decisions even when they know that they will be unpopular.
Be wary of promises made on how the law will be enforced so
everyone will be happy and get their every need met. There is a
reason there is a blindfold on the person holding the scales of
justice. It shouldn't make a difference whether the victim is a
campaign contributor or someone not even registered to vote!
