The organization's Memorial Scholarship is a one-year scholarship
for $500. To be eligible, the applicant must be an Illinois high
school senior and be a child or grandchild of a U.S. military
veteran who served after Sept. 15, 1940, and was honorably
discharged or is presently serving in the military. The applicant is
required to have taken the ACT or SAT. The WORCHID Scholarship is
also a one-year scholarship for $500. To be eligible, the applicant
must be an Illinois high school senior and be a child of a deceased
father or mother who was a U.S. military veteran who served after
Sept. 15, 1940, and was honorably discharged. The deceased military
parent need not have been killed in action or died as a result of a
service-connected disability. The applicant is required to have
taken the ACT or SAT.
The deadline is the postmarked date of March 1 on the envelope.
Any received after that date will not be judged.

The Illinois AMVETS and the Illinois AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary will
do the judging of the scholarship applications submitted. Only the
winning scholarship recipients will be notified. The winners will
select the college of their choice.
Applications may be obtained from a school counselor; from AMVETS
Department of Illinois State Headquarters, 2200 S. Sixth St.,
Springfield, IL 62703; or by calling 217-528-4713. However, do not
send Illinois AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary scholarship applications and
documents to the Springfield address.
