Sears set to open Woodlawn Rd. store

[July 19, 2008]  On the west end of Lincoln at 2790 Woodlawn Road, the old carpeting and floor tiles are gone and have been replaced by a shiny new floor. The ceiling tiles are all clean and new, and the walls have a fresh coat of paint. Over along the east wall, shelving units have been assembled, just waiting for product.

The long wait for Sears' loyal shoppers, and anyone who might have a tax incentive check to spend, is almost over. The company's main website already lists the location as an authorized Sears store.

The new Lincoln Sears store is slated for a grand opening on Aug. 6.

The shipments of Kenmore appliances, Craftsman tools and many other products, including flat-panel televisions, are expected to begin arriving next week. Once the store is full of merchandise, the transition of the vacant store into a new retail facility will be almost complete.

All it will take then is a little organization to make sure everything and everyone is ready to welcome area shoppers into their hometown Sears store.

Lincoln resident and longtime retailer Doug Shumard will operate the store, an authorized retail dealer store. As an authorized Sears retailer, they will accept the Sears credit card, which area residents couldn't take advantage of in recent years without a long drive.

As the big day arrives, LDN will keep you abreast of special information to make sure you don't miss out on a century-old retailing icon's return to Lincoln.
