Oasis update

[July 28, 2008]  The Oasis, Logan County's senior citizen center, 501 Pulaski St. in Lincoln, is open weekdays, except holidays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The center also is open on Friday and Sunday nights for table games. Dominic Dalpoas is the executive director. Activities are open to all Logan County senior citizens, regardless of membership. Friends of The Oasis members receive a bimonthly newsletter by mail and reduced rates for classes and trips. For more information, call 732-6132 or 732-5844.

Free blood pressure checks

The Oasis offers free checking of blood pressure every Friday from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Meeters and Greeters

The Meeters and Greeters group will meet at 2 p.m. Monday. This group of volunteers visits once a month with those who cannot get out, to add a bright spot in their life. If you would like to participate or would like more information, please call the senior center at 732-6132.

Oasis Belles

The Oasis Red Hat group will meet at 11 a.m. Tuesday. After the meeting, lunch is available for purchase. Please call 732-6132 for a reservation the day before.

Tuesday lunch

The 11:30 a.m. lunch for Aug. 5 features tuna casserole, salad, garlic bread and dessert for a suggested donation of $3.75. If you stay to play cards, the cost is $3.25. The reservation deadline is Monday noon.

Bingo at the Rec

The special for Tuesday night bingo at the Lincoln Rec Center is "Computer Sale 25% Night." Get 25 percent off a $12 computer, for a selling price of $9; get 25 percent off a $16 computer, for a selling price of $12; or get 25 percent off a $20 computer, for a selling price of $15. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Early bird is at 6:50 p.m.

Free hearing screening

Hearing screening tests will be available Aug. 6 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Joyce Dearth, B.C.H.I.S., provides the service from the Hearing Aid Center. Service is by appointment only; please call the senior center at 732-6132.

Euchre, anyone?

The Oasis is looking for euchre players! The senior center would like to start a euchre group on Wednesday mornings. The first beginners’ euchre games will be Aug. 6, starting at 10 a.m.

Card winners

The winners for weekday pinochle were Larry Van Bibber and Kathy Roos. The weekend winners were Kathy Roos and Adam Bock. For five-in-one, there was a tie between Betty Burger and Judy Morrow.
