[June 02, 2008]  (AP)  Clear skies were forecast Monday across most of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states, although a lingering cold front was expected to cause more showers and thunderstorms in the Southeast.

A cold front moving into the central Plains was expected to deliver a round of severe thunderstorms to the region in the afternoon. Strong winds and hail were anticipated. Conditions could produce tornadoes in the late afternoon and evening.

Warmer weather was forecast for the West as the jet stream moves back to the north. Temperatures in California's Central Valley were expected to rise into the 80s as skies clear. Temperatures also were expected to warm up in the Northwest.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Sunday ranged from a low of 28 degrees at Canyon Village, Wyo., to a high of 113 degrees at Wink, Texas.
