The first storm, which occurred at roughly 8 p.m. and lasted almost
two hours, dropped significant rainfall of 3 to 5 inches across much
of central Illinois, but the long night wasn’t over. At 1:17 a.m.
a second storm that lit up the sky with an almost constant lighting
display poured another rainfall of as many inches across some areas.
The local emergency management agency reports some areas received as
much as 6 inches of rain throughout the night.
EMA announced that people should be cautious when driving, as excessive
runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and
streams, urban areas, highways, streets, and underpasses as well as
other drainage areas and low-lying spots.
Residents are still not out of the wet weather, with another
front and the possibility of more thunderstorms in Wednesday’s
forecast.
