[June 11, 2008]  During the month of May, the Lincoln Police Department participated in the "Click It or Ticket" campaign with the Illinois Department of Transportation, Division of Traffic Safety.

Lincoln officers issued a total of 52 seat belt citations. Of those, 41 tickets were issued to the vehicle operators and 11 tickets were issued to vehicle passengers.

Traffic stops for these seat belt violations resulted in two arrests for driving with a revoked or suspended license, eight arrests for operating a motor vehicle without insurance, and two arrests for no valid registration -- expired.

Motorists should always wear their seat belts and ensure all passengers and children are buckled up or placed in an approved child safety restraint device.
