In May, the executive committee of the Lincoln College board of
trustees gave approval to move forward on the new building, which
will be known as the Lincoln Center. The building is the result of
the ongoing "If it hadn't been for Lincoln College..." capital
campaign that started in 2004. Lincoln College President John M.
Hutchinson will welcome attendees and introduce John Blackburn,
Lincoln College board chairman and CEO of Country Financial.
Participants in the groundbreaking ceremony will include key donors
to the building project, construction principals, local and state
government officials, and other members of the college
administration.
"The Lincoln Center will be a tremendous asset to our college and
community and will serve as the centerpiece for Lincoln College,"
Hutchinson said. "It serves a dual purpose, allowing a beautiful
home for our athletic programs as well as an updated museum that
will highlight the many Abraham Lincoln items with historic
relevance. I appreciate all the behind-the-scenes hard work that has
helped make this wonderful venture a reality."
The project was designed by architectural and construction firm
CORE Construction of Morton. Plans for the new center include an
arena with bleacher and loge seating for 1,200 people. The museum
provides approximately 8,000 square feet to display the college's
Lincoln collection, valued at nearly $3 million.
