The IBS Illinois Small School Player of the Year honor was shared by
6-foot-2 Warrensburg-Latham senior Zack Boyd and 6-foot-6
Pinckneyville senior Kyle Cassity. Both are uncommitted seniors.
Boyd averaged 23.5 points per game and 5.6 rebounds per game in
2007-08. In his career, he has garnered interest from programs such
as Evansville, Indiana State, Missouri State, South Dakota State and
Southern Illinois-Edwardsville. Cassity averaged 19.1 points per
game and 8.2 rebounds per game and has interest from programs such
as Arkansas State, Evansville, Hawaii, Illinois-Springfield,
Michigan, Missouri-Kansas City, Penn State, Saint Louis, Southern
Illinois, Southern Illinois-Edwardsville and Southern Indiana.
Boyd led his team to a 31-1 regular-season finish, the best
regular-season finish in decades, and is the latest in a long line
of talented prospects to come out of the Warrensburg-Latham program.
He also is the all-time leading scorer for the program. "Zack
embraced the leadership role for his team this season and was the
all-around leader for the very talented team," said Jason Speaks,
director of Illinois Basketball Services. "His scoring, attitude and
grasp of the game will make some college coach very happy in the
next four years."
Cassity, regardless of class, is one of the state's top
prospects. He powered the storied Pinckneyville program to a 28-4
record. "Some may consider Kyle a hidden gem, but he really made
some noise this season," said Speaks. "He is capable of succeeding
at any college level."
The IBS Newcomer of the Year was 6-foot-6, 235-pound El
Paso-Gridley freshman Codey Funk. The freshman had a solid season,
which included a strong performance against NCAA-DI target Jordan
Prosser, an all-state selection from Eureka.
