Route 66 Garage Sale Is Looking for Vendors and Volunteers

[March 11, 2008]  Last year, Bruce Huskins had an idea for Logan County. His proposal came to life with the first Logan County Route 66 Garage Sale. This sale was dubbed "37 Miles of Smiles" and it indeed was a huge success. People came from all over the state, as well as other areas of the country, to participate in the garage sale.

This year, the Route 66 Heritage Foundation of Logan County is working to surpass the excellence of last year's event. The 2008 Logan County Route 66 Garage Sale will be on June 13 and 14, with vendors located in Atlanta, Elkhart, Broadwell and at multiple sites in Lincoln. Many vendors have already signed up for spaces, but the foundation would like to extend the opportunity to as many as possible. Vendor spaces at sanctioned locations can be used to set up your own garage sale, or to set up a booth for your business. For a standard space, the cost is $30, and it is $95 for a food vendor space.

In order to make this year's event bigger and better than last year's, the Route 66 Heritage Foundation of Logan County has ensured that each sanctioned location for vendors will have restrooms, water and trash pickup available.

This year's garage sale pamphlet is also being expanded and presents an excellent opportunity for any and all advertisers to get the word out about their business. The deadline for ad placements is April 15. Vendors have an added benefit of a free listing in the garage sale pamphlet, noting their location and wares. In order to gain this free listing, vendor applications need to be returned by April 15. Garage sales along Route 66 may also be listed on the map for a small fee.

The foundation is also looking for volunteers to help with the garage sale this year. These volunteers will be asked to help set up as well as help the foundation communicate with the vendors. Since foundation members can't be everywhere at once, they need volunteers to assist by being at each location to let them know if someone from the foundation needs to swing by.

If you're interested in being a vendor at the Logan County Route 66 Garage Sale or volunteering to help, please call 217-732-8687.
