Participants will start the geocaching event at the Lincoln's New
Salem Visitor Center. Approximately 30-40 caches associated with
historical events that occurred in Menard County will be hidden
throughout the county. The event is co-sponsored by Menard County
Trails & Greenways, Central Illinois Geocaching Association, and
Lincoln's New Salem State Historic Site.
Preregistration for the GPS-guided treasure hunt closes March 31.
A $10 fee includes a light continental breakfast, local merchants'
bag and an event T-shirt. Paying participants who find the clues for
10 special caches will receive a free, specifically designed event
pin. Those participating without paying the registration fee will
have the opportunity to purchase the T-shirt and or the event pin at
the beginning or end of the event. A hand-held GPS unit will be
needed for each vehicle. GPS coordinates will be available for
download or in printed form at the start location.
