Legislative Scholarships Available

[March 17, 2008]  SPRINGFIELD -- Eight students could receive one-year legislative scholarships to cover their tuition at any Illinois public college or university, according to state Sen. Larry Bomke, R-Springfield. The scholarships are awarded by an independent committee that decides based on economic need, community participation and academic excellence.

Bomke has established the scholarship committee, which is made up of educators and community professionals from throughout the 50th Senate District. They are responsible for reviewing all applications and selecting the scholarship recipients.

Application process:

  1. Verify that you live in the 50th Senate District. If you are unsure, you can check at http://www.elections.illinois.gov/
    DistrictLocator/AddressSearch.aspx
    .

  2. Contact Bomke's district office to receive a scholarship application or print out the application from www.bomke.senategop.org. [To download Adobe Acrobat Reader for the PDF file, click here.]

  3. Complete the application form in its entirety and return with a postmark of April 1 or before.

  4. On forms provided, submit two current letters of recommendation from teachers or faculty.

  5. Send scholarship application materials to Senator Bomke Scholarship Committee, c/o Lori Bottrell, Room 307 - State Capitol, Springfield, IL 62706

Applications must be received in the senator's office with a postmark of no later than April 1. Notification of scholarship awards will be made in the summer, and the scholarships are available after Jan. 10, 2009.
