[March 17, 2008]
A
flood watch continues through Tuesday evening for a portion of
central Illinois, including the following counties: Cass, DeWitt,
Fulton, Knox, Logan, Marshall, Mason, McLean, Menard, Morgan,
Peoria, Sangamon, Schuyler, Scott, Stark, Tazewell and Woodford. |
Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop and spread across
the watch area by Monday afternoon. Locally heavy rainfall of 1.5 to
2 inches is expected through Tuesday afternoon. The heaviest rains,
northwest of a line from Springfield to Bloomington, will come
earlier in the event, mainly Monday afternoon and into Monday night.
This locally heavy rainfall will produce excessive runoff and
will likely lead to flooding on area creeks, streams and rivers.
Flooding of underpasses and low-lying areas near roads will be
possible. In addition, the Illinois River will most likely climb
above flood stage in the days following these heavy rains.
A flood watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.
You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. People living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.
