[March 17, 2008]  LAWNDALE -- Dorothy Follis, 84, of Lawndale died Saturday, March 15, 2008, at 1:30 p.m. at Hopedale Hospital, Hopedale.

Visitation will be private, for family only.

A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Elkhart Cemetery, with Richard Dyke officiating.

Arrangements are being handled by Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home.

Mrs. Follis was retired from employment with the state of Illinois as a licensed practical nurse.

She was born Jan. 4, 1924, in Cedar City, Utah, to Barney "Freeborn" and Verna Mae Isom Gifford. She married Jack Edward Follis in St. Louis, Mo., in 1944, and he preceded her in death.

She is survived by five sons, Jim (and Sharon) Follis of Lincoln, Jack Follis of Lawndale, Robert (and Barbara) Follis of Lincoln, Jerry (and Sharon) Follis of Decatur and Jon (and Debbie) Follis of Arlington Heights; one brother, Elvin Gifford of Provo, Utah; one sister, Maxene Brannon of Cedar City, Utah; 14 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was also preceded in death by one grandson, Brad Follis.

She was of the Mormon faith. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, both in Chicago.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
