[March 25, 2008]  (AP)  A storm system was expected to move eastward from the Upper Midwest through the Great Lakes and Northeast, causing widespread snow showers Tuesday. The system should also cause rain from the Ohio Valley to the northern Mid-Atlantic.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms were also expected over the mid-Mississippi Valley late Tuesday and Wednesday.

Out West, scattered snow showers and lower elevation rains were expected over the northern Intermountain West and Rockies.

Coastal rain and higher elevation snow were forecast for the Pacific Northwest and Northern California. Precipitation was to increase Tuesday afternoon across the coastal ranges, spreading into portions of the Intermountain West Wednesday.

Daytime temperatures were expected to be in the 70s and 80s in the Southwest and Deep South on Tuesday. Chilly temperatures were predicted for the northern states, with highs in the 30s and 40s.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Monday ranged from a low of minus 22 degrees at Presque Isle, Maine, to a high of 96 degrees at Yuma, Ariz.
