[March 26, 2008]  (AP)  Light to moderate snow was expected over northern New England on Wednesday, with rain across the northern Mid-Atlantic and southern New England. The snow should turn to turn to rain by Wednesday afternoon and taper off at night.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms were expected from the Ohio and mid-Mississippi valleys to the central and southern Plains.

Light snow and rain were expected in the Upper Midwest and upper Great Lakes Wednesday. The snow could become heavy by Thursday morning before diminishing later in the day.

In the West, more wet weather was predicted.

Scattered snow showers were in store for the Intermountain West.

Moderate to heavy coastal rain and mountain snow were to continue across the Pacific Northwest and Northern California, spreading across the Intermountain West from Wednesday night through Thursday.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Tuesday ranged from a low of minus 20 degrees at Presque Isle, Maine, to a high of 94 degrees at Death Valley, Calif.
