[March 31, 2008]  The following recalls were issued by various federal and state agencies during the week ending March 29: 

WATER BOTTLES

Downeast Concepts Inc. is recalling Backyard and Beyond Metal Water Bottles sold nationwide from February 2006 to February 2008. Surface paint on the metal water bottles contains excessive levels of lead. 

Backyard and Beyond brand water bottles with model numbers 67402, 67404, 67442, 67444, 67742, 60442, 67744, 67746, 67748 and 60448 printed on the hang tag. The metal water bottles have a black plastic sip-top and were sold in green, pink or blue with assorted animal or insect graphics on the exterior. 

Consumers should return the water bottles to the store where purchased for a refund.

YAMAHA RHINO VEHICLES 

Yamaha Motor Corporation U.S.A. is recalling Model Year 2008 Rhino YXR450 and YXR700 Side-by-Side Vehicles sold nationwide from October 2007 to March 2008. The brake caliper on the left front wheel could have been made incorrectly, resulting in brake fluid leaking. This can cause a loss of braking and control of the vehicle, posing a serious safety risk to the driver and passenger. 

This recall involves model year 2008 Rhino YXR450 and YXR700 Side-by-Side Vehicles. A complete list can be found at www.recalls.org

TOY PENGUINS 

Plan Toys Inc. is recalling Toy Penguin Figures sold nationwide from May 2007 to February 2008. The head of the penguin toy can detach, exposing connectors with sharp points, presenting a laceration hazard. 

The wood penguin-shaped toy has a black head with rubber fins, a yellow nose and a white body with red on the base. The toy is round-shaped and creates a soft bell jingle when spun. The toy measures about 3 ¾ inches in height and about 3 inches in diameter. "PLAN TOYS" and UPC number 084543521109 or EAN number 8854740052117 are printed on the outside of the packaging of the toy. 

Consumers should return the penguins to the store where purchased to receive a refund.

RING TOSS GAMES 

Educational Insights is recalling Ring Toss Games sold nationwide from December 2007 to February 2008. The paint on the yellow peg of the toy contains excessive levels of lead. 

The recalled ring toss game has three plastic blue rings and five 4-inch wooden pegs. Four of the five pegs are purple and one is yellow. The base of the game is made of two red wooden boards that form an "X" when assembled. 

All purchasers have been contacted and requested to return the games for a store credit or refund.

AVON WARMING BEARS 

Avon Products Inc. is recalling Cozy Warming Polar Bears sold exclusively by Avon Products from July 2007 to February 2008. The warming pouch inside the bear can overheat and ignite when heated in a microwave oven, posing a fire and burn hazard. 

The recalled white plush warming bear has a red hat and brown nose. It is about 17 inches long and comes with a buckwheat-filled pouch that is heated in a microwave oven and is inserted into an opening in the bear's belly. "Avon Products" is printed on a white tag sewn onto the bear.

PLUSH ROCKER TOYS 

Tek Nek Toys Int'l L.P., is recalling Rock ‘N Ride Plush Rocker Toys sold nationwide from September 2007 to March 2008. The base of the rocker can become unstable and allow the rocker to tip forward or backward, posing a fall hazard. 

This recall involves Rock ‘N Ride plush rocker toys sold in eight models: brown pony, pink pony, pink unicorn, deluxe pony, deluxe bull, lil' penguin, lil' propeller plane and Clifford big red rocker. The toys have molded plastic rocker bases and were sold for children at least 18 months old and up to 65 lbs. Rockers included in this recall have a date code from July 26, 2007 through December 29, 2007. The date codes are printed on a sticker inside the battery compartment.

BOYS' SWEATSHIRTS

Kidz World Inc., d/b/a High Energy USA is recalling Boys' Hooded Sweatshirts sold nationwide from October 2007 to November 2007. The sweatshirts have a drawstring through hood which poses a strangulation hazard to children. 

The recalled boys' sweatshirts are hooded and have a zipper up the front. They were sold in boys' sizes small and medium. The style number, and "High Energy" or "Energy Clothing Company," are printed on the sewn-in neck tag. A complete list of the recalled sweatshirts can be found at www.recalls.org.
