[May 01, 2008]  LAYTON, Utah (AP) -- Perhaps he couldn't wait for his tax-rebate check. Police said a 27-year-old Clearfield man stole a U.S. mail van that was parked but running Monday near a medical complex in Layton.

The vehicle was recovered several hours later at Layton Hills Mall, where the suspect was caught inside the mall.

Layton Sgt. Mark Chatlin said it appears that no mail is missing.

Police don't know what the thief planned to do with a van that has just one seat and a steering wheel on the right side.
