[May 03, 2008]  Heritage In Flight Museum will host the second annual Airport Daze at the Logan County Airport this Sunday. A fun-filled day of aviation, history and awards has been planned to take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

HardwareSpecial emphasis during this year's event will be placed on our veterans. May is a month that marks two special days, one that honors all our soldiers and one that remembers our veterans. May 17 is Armed Forces Day and May 26 is Memorial Day.

Several ceremonial matters are planned. The Bloomington chapter of the Civil Air Patrol will perform the flag-raising ceremony. A special presentation will be made to the family of Robert "Bob" Huff for his service to our country. And the museum's restored M-37 truck will also be driven and dedicated.

There will be flying demonstrations featuring several different types of aircraft. Clyde Zellers, a professional pilot who flies authentic World War II airplanes in his off time, will be returning. Last year Zeller wowed the crowd as he taxied off the runway, stopped and folded up the wings of the giant TBM "war bird" he flew in from Smartt Field, St. Louis.

Chuck Holzwarth of Holzwarth Flying Service has agreed to provide an air tractor for a special showing of flight by a crop duster. See up-close one of those big yellow planes that you may have admired swooping so low and swiftly over our crops on hot summer days last year.

You can also watch the graceful and silent descent of powerless gliders.

The more adventurous members of the family can consider seeing Lincoln from a birds-eye view. Various types of aircraft rides will be available. The aircraft providing rides this year include war birds, airplanes and gliders.

The museum and outdoor static displays will be open to explore. There have been many new additions, new engine displays and some major equipment renovations in the last year.

In addition to the museum's standard hangar displays, there will also be a number of informational booths, including Abraham Lincoln Tourism Bureau of Logan County and the National Weather Service.

Tickets will also be available for a 50-50 drawing.

Refreshments will also be available for purchase.
