Oasis update

[May 14, 2008]  The Oasis, Logan County's senior citizen center, 501 Pulaski St. in Lincoln, is open weekdays, except holidays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The center also is open on Friday and Sunday nights for table games. Dominic Dalpoas is the executive director. Activities are open to all Logan County senior citizens, regardless of membership. Friends of The Oasis members receive a bimonthly newsletter by mail and reduced rates for classes and trips. For more information, call 732-6132 or 732-5844.

RestaurantExtension unit to sponsor bingo

The Logan County Extension Unit will sponsor the bingo games Thursday at The Oasis, beginning at 1 p.m. Come win nutritional prizes!

Alzheimer's support group to meet

The Alzheimer support group will meet Thursday at 1 p.m. in the library at The Oasis. No reservation is necessary. The group provides support and information for caregivers and extended family and is facilitated by a coordinator from Maple Ridge Care Centre.

Auto Repair

Memories class

Beginning in May, the Memories class is scheduled to meet on Thursdays. The group will meet this week Thursday at 3:45 p.m. in the library at the senior center. Participants are asked to bring their own pen and paper to learn skills needed to preserve memories for families and friends.

Oasis board meeting

The Oasis board of directors meets Thursday, beginning at 5 p.m. The meeting is open to the public. To schedule any agenda items, the board must receive notification in writing on or before the fifth day of the month prior to a meeting date.

Foot care

The Oasis offers foot care by Emma VanDyke, R.N. The cost is $8. The service is by appointment only; please call the senior center at 732-6132.

Bunco

Bunco at the senior center is scheduled for Monday, May 19, beginning at 10 a.m. The date and time was changed due to the coming Memorial Day holiday.

May birthdays

Birthday time! May birthdays will be celebrated at the senior center on Monday, beginning at 1:30 p.m. Come enjoy the entertainment, cake and ice cream.

Tuesday's lunch

The 11:30 a.m. lunch for May 20 will feature sloppy joes, tater tots, coleslaw and dessert for a suggested donation of $3.75. If you stay and play cards, the cost of the meal is $3.25. The deadline to make reservations is Monday noon.

Computer Repair

Bingo at the Rec

The computer special for Tuesday night bingo at the Lincoln Rec Center is free 6-on-9-up with the following conditions: Each player must purchase one 6-on-9 to play; with $12 computer get one additional 6-on-9 free; with $16 computer get two additional 6-on-9-up free; and with $20 computer get three additional 6-on-9-up free. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Early bird is 6:50.

Card winners

The card winners for weekday pinochle were Betty Oltmanns and Mina Bradburn. The weekend winners were Helen Opperman and Adam Bock. The winners at five-in-one were Betty Burger and Bernie DePuy.
