[May 21, 2008]  ATHENS, Greece (AP) -- The lawyer for top Greek swimmer Ioannis Drymonakos says the Olympic hopeful has tested positive for a banned substance.

Drymonakos is ranked second in the world for the 200 meters butterfly, according to the sport's world governing body, FINA, and holds the European record in the event. He was a strong medal hopeful for Greece at the Beijing Olympics.

His lawyer, Stavros Mavromatis, said Wednesday that the results of a "B" sample test had come back positive. He insisted that the swimmer never knowingly took any banned substance.

Last week, the Hellenic Swimming Federation said an initial positive result for a Greek swimmer had come from an out-of-competition test by the country's national anti-doping council. It had not named the athlete.

The Hellenic Swimming Federation has not confirmed the second positive test or released the swimmer's name ahead of an official announcement later Wednesday.
