Summer lessons and fun

[May 31, 2008]  The YMCA is still taking registrations for swimming lessons. Lessons are available for all skill levels, ranging from parent-child lessons, which introduce children 6 months to 3 years to the water and water skills, all with the assistance of a parent, through advanced classes, which work to improve upon existing skills as well as learn various elementary strokes. Stop by the Y office today at 604 Broadway to register, as space is limited and lesson dates are filling up.

Auto RepairSummer Field Trip Blast registration ends this week for the June 3 Children's Museum field trip for first- and second-graders and the June 5 Decatur Zoo field trip for third- and fourth-graders. Any registrations received after the deadline will incur a $5 fee increase. Space is limited for the fun-filled trips. Field trips are scheduled weekly, so call the Y office for more information about various trips offered for first- through fifth-grade children.

The YMCA has added another exciting week of art camp, titled "Recycled Art." The camp will be July 14-18 for children from first to sixth grade. Class fees increase by $10 after the registration deadline of July 2. A third art camp is scheduled for Aug 4-8 with a registration deadline on July 23. Space is limited, so be sure to register your child now.

School

Register your team now for a 3-on-3 youth soccer tournament. This tournament is for children entering first through eighth grade and is scheduled for July 18-20 at the Lincoln Development Center and the Y Activity Center. There is a $10 fee increase for registrations received after July 11. Please stop by the Y office to register your team today.

Nursing Homes

The YMCA is offering a July 28-Aug. 1 basketball clinic for girls entering first through sixth grade. Carol Wilson, Lincoln College women's basketball coach, will instruct participants on dribbling, passing, shooting, defense and much more. The staff will work with each of the girls to improve upon their existing skills. Stop by the Y office today for fees and times. There is a $10 fee increase for registrations received after July 18.
