NORMAL -- More than 60 students were recognized
recently at Heartland Community College's "Celebration of
Excellence" -- an annual reception that acknowledges the college's
most recent scholarship recipients and in many cases offers
recipients an opportunity to meet their scholarship donor or
sponsorship organization.
Dianne Lerman, first vice chair for the Heartland Foundation and
assistant vice president of claims for State Farm Insurance Company,
emceed the event and congratulated the scholarship recipients for
their commitment to education and to their community. |
"The Heartland Foundation is very proud of these students and their
many accomplishments," she said. "Contributing to their success
today will shape their future achievements and continue to
positively impact the community we share."
Foundation scholarships
at Heartland are awarded based on several different criteria,
including academic performance, community service, career field
affiliation or county residency. Since 1992, the Heartland
Foundation has committed more than $700,000 to deserving students,
and the foundation expects to award its 1,000th scholarship in 2009.
March 1, 2009, marks the deadline for students wanting to submit
a scholarship application to the Heartland Foundation for the
2009-10 academic year. For more information about the foundation,
such as the scholarship application process or how to become a
scholarship sponsor, call Chris Downing, director of resource
