Several student groups from
Lincoln College will again line the campus with cans of food donated
by the public in order to bring awareness of helping feed those in
need.
Members of Rotaract, Black Student Union and the Lincoln College
Honors Program will be at Lincoln's Wal-Mart store on Nov. 23,
noon-3 p.m., in hopes of getting everyone in the community to help
with donated food items. All items will help the Lincoln/Logan
County Food Pantry and CIEDC. |
Michelle Baldwin, faculty sponsor of the Lincoln College Honors
Program, hopes that the students and the community can work together
to help those in need. "Many of our students want to help and really
do understand the need that is out there," said Baldwin. John
Stoltzenburg, LC director of student activities, will help
coordinate the effort of lining up the collection. Stoltzenburg says
he hopes to collect more items this year. "The students that did
this last year saw firsthand how our community responds to the need
of hunger," he said. "The kids were encouraged by the actions of the
general public, and hopefully we can do it again this year."
Plans are to start the line of donated items on Nov. 25 at 3 p.m.
at McKinstry Library and to stretch the items to the Heritage West
residence hall.
Stoltzenburg said that some of the items the agencies are asking
for are peanut butter, canned fruits and vegetables, cereal, soup,
macaroni and cheese, soda crackers, 100 percent fruit juices, toilet
paper, diapers, soap, shampoo, toothbrushes, and feminine hygiene
products.
