[November 18, 2008]  The Transit Partnership Group of Logan, Mason and Menard Counties met Monday and discussed the results of a community survey distributed to over 1,400 individuals.

The group's purpose is to complete a five-phase primer in order to access federal Section 5311 transportation program dollars available for rural counties. The Logan and Mason County boards began their process early 2008 and Menard County joined the efforts in September. The survey results were the end of phase 2, and the group will now proceed to phase 3: creating an action plan to coordinate public transportation services.

"The community survey results showed us that transportation is a serious need for residents in our area," said Angela Stoltzenburg. Stoltzenburg, executive director of Community Action Partnership of Central Illinois, is serving as team leader for the effort. "Over 60 percent of the individuals surveyed were unable to attend medical appointments in the past six months due to lack of transportation. The members of this group are confident that we can find a way to do better than that."

The next meeting has been scheduled for Jan. 14 at 10 a.m. The public is invited to attend and join the group's efforts. For more information, call 217-732-2159, ext. 224.
