[November 28, 2008]  Collecting toys during the lunch hour will be the focus for many on the Lincoln campus of Lincoln College. Both students and staff plan to collect toys that will be donated to the area Toys for Tots campaign.

Coordinating student efforts is Michelle Baldwin, who sponsors the Lincoln College Honors Program. Baldwin says the toy and donation drive will run until Dec. 10, with a goal of collecting 100 non-wrapped new toys.

"This project is one way for the Lincoln College community to give back to children who are less fortunate," Baldwin said. "We are delighted that we can help make the holiday season a happy one for children in need."

Jay Gaydosh, Logan County Toys for Tots coordinator, said all of the toys and funds collected during this drive will be distributed in the Lincoln and Logan County area, with distribution set for Dec. 15 at Community Action. Gaydosh added that those needing to sign up for toys should contact Community Action at 732-2159.

Donating to the Toys for Tots campaign is an annual event for the Lincoln College student groups.

Toys for Tots began in 1947 when a group of Marine reservists in Los Angeles collected and distributed 5,000 toys to needy children. This charitable endeavor has made U.S. Marines the unchallenged leaders in looking after needy children at Christmas.
