[November 29, 2008]  (AP)  Widespread showers and thunderstorms were forecast for the Gulf Coast, the Southeast and the mid-Atlantic on Saturday, while the West was expected to be mostly dry and sunny, though more snow was possible in the Rockies.

Up to 2 of inches of rain were forecast in parts of the South. Seasonable temperatures were predicted to return to the Southeast, while the mid-Atlantic was to remain cool, with highs near 50.

To the north, sunny skies and cool temperatures were forecast in the Great Lakes, New England and the northern Plains. Highs were predicted to remain in the upper 30s.

Scattered snow showers were expected in the higher elevations of the northern and central Rockies, with light flurries expected elsewhere.

Parts of the West Coast could see light rain, though no significant accumulation was expected. The Cascades could also see light snow. Warm, windy conditions were forecast for Southern California, increasing fire threats in the region.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states on Friday ranged from a low of 7 degrees at Polebridge, Mont., to a high of 89 degrees at Alice, Texas.
