[October 01, 2008]  MONROE, Wash. (AP) -- A man robbed an armored car driver and escaped by floating down the Skykomish River on an inner tube or inflatable raft. Police spokeswoman Debbie Willis said the driver was sprayed with pepper spray about 11 a.m. Tuesday while coming out of a Bank of America branch.

CivicThe robber grabbed a money bag and ran about 100 yards to a creek that runs into the river.

One witnesses reported he floated off on an inner tube, and another said he swam to an inflatable raft that may have been made from an inner tube.

By the time police arrived he had floated away.

Willis said investigators believe others involved in the crime could have picked him up at a nearby boat launch or park.
