SPRINGFIELD -- The Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial
is still 4 1/2 months away, but people who want to be a part of the
200th birthday celebration at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential
Library and Museum need to plan a little further ahead.
A volunteer orientation program has been scheduled for Tuesday,
from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., in the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library
Multi-Purpose Room. Training sessions following the orientation will
be at the same location on Oct. 14, 21 and 28, all at 5:30 p.m., and
will feature Kathryn Harris, library director, and Tom Schwartz,
state historian. This will be the final orientation program for
prospective volunteers before the February 2009 Lincoln
Bicentennial.

Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum volunteers are
needed to greet visitors and assist with special events and
educational programs. Volunteers may also take advantage of
continuing education programs throughout the year. For more
information or to register for the Oct. 7 orientation program,
