Lincoln College announces more scholarships

[October 09, 2008]  Two Lincoln College students have been awarded the R.W. Garrett Insurance Scholarship at Lincoln College. Brooke Kelly and Marjorie White, both of Lincoln, are this year's recipients.

Kelly is a 2008 graduate of Lincoln Community High School. She is currently studying general education courses. She is the daughter of Peggy Kelly of Lincoln.

 

White is a 2007 graduate of Lincoln Community High School. She was on the fall 2007 dean's list and the spring 2008 president's list at Lincoln College. She is also active with the dance program at the college. She is the daughter of Duane and Rita White of Lincoln.

The $1,000 scholarship is awarded annually to students who graduated from an area high school and are in good academic standing. Roger Garrett, owner of the R.W. Garrett Insurance Agency, established the scholarship to support students who show academic potential.

Hartsburg Bank Scholarship

Ashley Merreighn, daughter of Michael and Christine Merreighn of Lincoln, is this year's recipient of the Hartsburg Bank Scholarship at Lincoln College.

Merreighn, a 2007 graduate of Lincoln Community High School, is currently studying general education courses and plans to continue her education at a four-year university after earning an associate degree at Lincoln College.

The Hartsburg Bank Scholarship is awarded annually to a worthy student who is in good academic standing and from the Logan County area.

Percy and Grace Council Scholarship

Lincoln College sophomore Madison Barlow of Lincoln has been awarded the Percy and Grace Council Scholarship at Lincoln College.

Barlow, a 2007 graduate of Lincoln Community High School, is the daughter of Diana Barlow of Lincoln and Gary Barlow of Jacksonville. She is taking liberal arts courses at Lincoln College and working toward an associate degree. She was on the fall 2007 dean's list. She plans to pursue a degree at a four-year university after Lincoln College.

The Percy and Grace Council Scholarship is awarded annually to students who have graduated from an area high school and are in good academic standing. The award was established by the Council family to honor the memory of Percy R. and Grace W. Council. Percy Council was a member of the Lincoln College basketball team and earned a degree from the college in 1911.

Harris-Hodnett Agency Scholarship and Corrine Sheets Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Derek Hurley is this year's recipient of the Harris-Hodnett Agency Scholarship and the Corrine Sheets Memorial Endowed Scholarship at Lincoln College. Both $1,000 scholarships are awarded annually to a student in good academic standing.

Hurley, a sophomore, is a 2007 Lincoln Community High School graduate. He is taking liberal arts classes at Lincoln College and plans to transfer to a four-year university and major in English. He is the son of Kendall and Susan Hurley of Lincoln.

The Harris-Hodnett Agency Scholarship is made possible by the generosity of corporate owners Gary Long and George Petro, both of Lincoln.

The Corrine Sheets Memorial Endowed Scholarship was established in memory of Mrs. Sheets, a member of the LC Class of 1925.

Puritan Springs Water Scholarship

Danielle Preston, daughter of Cherie Preston of Lincoln, is this year's recipient of the Puritan Springs Water Scholarship at Lincoln College.

Preston, a sophomore, is currently taking general education classes and plans to continue her education at a four-year university after earning an associate degree at Lincoln College. She was on the president's list for the fall 2007 and spring 2008 semesters.

The annual $1,000 Puritan Springs Water Scholarship at Lincoln College is awarded to a student from Logan County who holds a 3.0 grade-point average. The award is provided by Puritan Springs Water of Lincoln.

State Bank of Lincoln Scholarship

Andrew Stephenson, son of Robert and Diane Stephenson of Lincoln, is this year's recipient of the State Bank of Lincoln Scholarship at Lincoln College.

Stephenson is a 2007 graduate of Lincoln Community High School. He is taking liberal arts classes at Lincoln College and plans to transfer to a four-year university. He has achieved academic success and was on the fall 2007 dean's list.

The State Bank of Lincoln Scholarship is awarded annually to a worthy student in good academic standing.

Douglas Broadhurst Memorial Scholarship and the Albert and Ruth Kapik Endowed Scholarship

Lincoln College sophomore Andrew Galligos, son of Deborah Galligos of Lincoln, is this year's recipient of the Douglas Broadhurst Memorial Scholarship and the Albert and Ruth Kapik Endowed Scholarship at Lincoln College.

Galligos, a 2007 Lincoln Community High School graduate, is taking liberal arts courses at Lincoln College. He plans to continue his education at Western Illinois University after completing his associate degree at Lincoln College.

The Douglas Broadhurst Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a student who achieves academic excellence. The award is in memory of Douglas
Broadhurst, who attended Lincoln College.

The Albert and Ruth Kapik Endowed Scholarship is awarded to a student who is a graduate of Lincoln or any Logan County high school.

Jim and Nancy Ireland Annual Music Scholarship

Nathaniel King, son of Allen and Gail King of Lincoln, is this year's recipient of the Jim and Nancy Ireland Annual Music Scholarship at Lincoln College. The $1,000 scholarship is awarded annually to a student in good academic standing who participates in musical activities at Lincoln College.

King is a 2006 graduate of Lincoln Community High School. He was on the fall 2007 dean's list. He is active with the Lincoln College Theatre Department and plans to continue his education in that field.

The Jim and Nancy Ireland Annual Music Scholarship was established in 2004. The benefactors, Jim and Nancy Ireland of Lincoln, were inspired to create this scholarship after attending several musical performances at Lincoln College.

Lincoln Kiwanis Club Scholarship

Colan Eigenbrod of Lincoln is this year's recipient of the Lincoln Kiwanis Club Scholarship at Lincoln College.

Eigenbrod, a freshman, is a 2008 Lincoln Community High School graduate. He is taking liberal arts courses at Lincoln College and working toward an associate degree. He plans to continue his education and major in education. He is the son of John and Diane Eigenbrod of Lincoln.

The Lincoln Kiwanis Club established the scholarship to support students from the area who show academic potential and who are active in extracurricular activities that benefit the local communities of Logan County.
